Ladybird Spider

A brightly colored ladybird spider scurries over a rock. This little arachnid was pretty quick, but I managed to frame a shot before it got away. Known to zoologists as Eresus cinnaberinus, it sports a solid black body and legs with its distinctive red abdomen and four black spots--a pattern seemingly not intended for camoflage, but rather to say 'handle me at your own risk!' to any other creatures who do no display arachnophobia. I found this little one among the ancient ruins of Ephesus in Turkey.
